NEWS BRIEF:  Utah Office of L3Harris Technologies has Landed a $587 Million U.S. Navy Contract

The Salt Lake City, Utah-based office of L3Harris Technologies (NYSE:LHX) has just been awarded a $587 million contract by the U.S. Navy.

According to the U.S. Department of Defense, the L3Harris contract is a five-year engagement (from August 2024 through August 2029) "... for the design, production and delivery of electronic warfare test articles and fleet prototypes ... of the Next Generation Jammer Low Band program for the Navy EA-18G Growler and Royal Australian Air Force."

Specifically, the Communication Systems-West division of L3Harris is taking the lead on designing, producing and delivering "electronic warfare test articles and fleet prototypes to include

  • "11 pod simulators,
  • "Eight operational prototype pods,
  • "Four jettison mass model pods,
  • "Two captive mass models,
  • "Two mission system prototypes, and
  • "Two technique development systems, as well as

— "Engineering support,
— "Integration,
— "Test and maintenance ..."

for U.S. Navy EA-18G Growlers.

According to the NAVAIR website, the Growler aircraft "... provides enhanced airborne electronic attack capabilities ..." (aka,) "jamming technology" (via the) "... forward pod located under the right wing of the aircraft." (Underlining added.)

The bulk of the work, 60%, will be conducted in Utah,

  • With 57% happening in Salt Lake City, and with
  • 3% being performed in St. George.

The remaining 40% of the work for this contract will be conducted in

  •  Boulder, Colorado (11%);
  • Lansdale, Pennsylvania (10%);
  • Stuart, Florida (10%);
  • Goleta, California (4%);
  • Edgewood, New York (3%); and
  • Waco, Texas (2%).

{NOTE: The U.S. Navy is the only branch of the U.S. military to use the EA-18G Growler, although the Royal Australian Air Force also uses the Growler.}
