NEWS BRIEF: Boeing Lands $234 Million Contract Modification for ICBM Work to be Performed in Layton, Utah
Under the original contract, the value of Boeing's ICBM work in Utah now reaches nearly $1.9 billion.
Boeing (NYSE:BA) has landed a $234 million contract modification for ICBM work that it will perform in Layton, Utah in connection with Hill Air Force Base in Davis County, Utah
Specifically, the U.S. Department of Defense has announced that the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) has modified its "flight test telemetry termination production requirements contract" which was originally awarded to Boeing on 01 February 2023 under contract number FA8214-23-D-0001.
Boeing's initial sole-source contract with the AFNWC was centered on providing it "... Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missile guidance subsystem support" and was defined in early 2023 as a $1.615 billion indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract, even though only $8.3 million was obligated at the time.
The time frame for this initiating sole-source contract stretched from February 2023 through February 2031.
However, the AFNWC issued a $38.2 million modification (P00001) in late May last year to Boeing's original sole-source agreement for "definitization of the flight test telemetry termination production," with $9 million obligated "at time award" and delivery expected by 31 December 2025.
As a result, when combined with the $234 million contract reported in this story, the value for Boeing's sole-source AFNWC Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missile work in Davis County now reaches nearly $1.9 billion.
To provide clarification for our readers, the 75th Air Base Wing has been designated the "... host unit at Hill Air Force Base (in) Utah, and is the Air Force's second largest base by population and geographical size."
In total, the 75th ABW is responsible for
- ~1.0 million acres of land in Utah,
- Hosting 1,700+ facilities,
- Supported by over 27,000 active duty and civilian governmental employees,
- From over 50 mission partners, including
- The various governmental and military entities noted in this story.
Additionally, although AFNWC (the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center) does operate at Hill AFB, it is actually headquartered in southeastern Albuquerque, New Mexico at Kirtland Air Force Base.
{Editor's Note: Apologies to the warfighters and staff of the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center for mistakenly misspelling the acronym AFNWC. Corrections made.}
