With an expected occupancy before 01 January 2026, the new plant of the Nucor Towers & Structures business unit will represent the company's third such steel products manufacturing location in northern Utah.

Charlotte, North Carolina-based Nucor (NYSE:NUE) has announced plans to drop $200 million to create a new steel products manufacturing plant for its Nucor Towers & Structures business unit in Brigham City, Utah.

As noted in the recent company news release announcing the Utah-based expansion, this new Nucor "... production facility will be highly automated and will enjoy a freight advantage compared to competitors outside the region."

Nucor expects to employ 200 workers at the new steel products production plant when it is fully operational.

In describing the decision to build this new plant in Utah, Leon Topalian, Chair, President and Chief Executive Officer of Nucor said,

"... locating this new facility in Utah positions us to meet growing demand for utility infrastructure in the region resulting from distributed energy projects, data centers, and population growth."

Although not detailed in the company news release, a senior representative of Brigham City explained to me that the new Nucor plant will

  • Be comprised of three separate structures,
  • With a smaller building for office and administrative functions attached to one of the larger buildings,
  • Comprising a total indoor square footage of 373,000-square-feet, with
  • The buildings situated on ~71.5 acres of land.

This representative (who asked to not be identified), further explained that much of the steel needed to build the new Nucor Towers & Structures plant will be sourced from Nucor's existing northern Utah-based facilities, two of which are also located in Brigham City, with a third based in Plymouth, Utah.

The result will be shorter delivery times of the steel materials needed to build the new facilities, leading the Brigham City representative to state that this newest Nucor Towers & Structures plant should be completed by the end of 2025.

According to its website, Nucor

  • Operates facilities in the United States, Canada and Mexico;
  • Is a manufacturer of a wide variety of steel and steel products;
  • Produces roughly 25% of all raw steel in the U.S.; and it
  • Employs over 32,000 workers, at
    — 26 U.S.-based steel mills, and
    — Over 100 steel products fabrication plants across North America.

Nucor will celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2025 and has been in Brigham City for over 40 years.

Nucor Towers & Structures was formed in 2022 and the newest Brigham City facilities will be one of four manufacturing plants for the business unit when it is completed later this year.
