As someone who watched the horrific progression of Alzheimer's Disease as it stripped away the mental and emotional essence of my mother over a six-year journey, I was pleased to see the announcement this morning that Canary Speech has landed a $13 million round of Series A funding.

Since its founding in 2016, the team at the Provo, Utah-based firm has been working on creating and bringing to market "... patented technology screens for mood, stress, and energy levels using a single 20-second audio clip."

As noted in today's funding announcement, Canary Speech utilizes

"... Ambient listening tools, which are systems designed to unobtrusively capture and analyze conversations in real-time, enable healthcare providers to focus on patient interactions while automatically documenting clinical notes."

The funding was led by Cortes Capital (Love's Private Equity), with participation from prior investors, including Utah-based Sorenson Communications, SMK (out of Japan), and Hackensack Meridian Health.

According to Crunchbase, with this funding round, Canary Speech has now raised $18.3 million across four rounds of funding.

Since mid-January 2022, Canary Speech has partnered with Irvine, California-based Syntiant to develop a "... new AI voice solution ... to detect Alzheimer’s Disease and other health conditions ... (via) digital biomarkers (that) enable voice analysis diagnosis in remote patient monitoring."

As noted in its graphic above, the Canary Speech API (application programming interface) utilizes patented vocal biomarker technologies to model acoustic and linguistic nuances to look for and identify early signs of mental and/or emotional health challenges, including

  • Anxiety and stress,
  • Depression and mood changes,
  • Alzheimer's Disease,
  • Parkinson's Disease,
  • Huntington's Disease, and
  • Other conditions,

each before such maladies are clinically observable.

Initial partners include

  • Aspire 365,
  • Galvan,
  • NobleAI,
  • OPPT Health,
  • SMK, and
  • Syntiant.

Good on ya, Team Canary Speech.

My family and I hope you find continued success.
